Born and raised in the foothills of Nepal, Prakash Adhikari has spent his life in the shadow of the Himalayas — and on the trails that wind through them. His journey began humbly as a porter, carrying heavy loads for trekking groups with quiet determination. But through years of dedication and a deep love for the mountains, he worked his way up to become one of Nepal’s most respected guides and expedition leaders.
With over 15 years of experience leading treks across the Himalayas, Prakash is the heart of Base Camp Himalayas’ operations in Nepal. He oversees every detail — from route planning and guide training to safety protocols and team logistics — ensuring every trek runs smoothly, ethically, and with genuine local connection.
But his impact goes far beyond the trail. Prakash is deeply committed to the communities we trek through. After Nepal’s devastating earthquakes, he led local relief efforts to help remote villages rebuild. Today, he continues that work through ongoing charitable initiatives — including support for the Shree Ganeshman Singh Memorial Primary School in his home village of Nuwakot. Thanks to his leadership, every trek we sell helps fund schoolbooks, uniforms, teacher salaries, and more.
He’s also a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment in Nepal’s trekking industry, actively supporting the training and employment of female guides. Through partnerships like the one with the Australian Himalayan Foundation, he ensures that a portion of proceeds from our women-only treks supports vital women’s health programs in remote communities.
As a proud father to his daughter Aprila (6), Prakash brings a deeply personal sense of purpose to everything he does. He’s building more than treks — he’s building a future for Nepal’s children, women, and mountain communities.
Prakash helped build Base Camp Himalayas on three unwavering values: fairness, connection, and impact. His leadership is what transforms our treks from simply beautiful journeys into life-changing experiences — for both our travellers and the people they meet along the way.
