If you’re planning an Everest Base Camp Trek or any trekking in the Himalayas, understanding the Lukla flight schedule is essential. Flight operations to Lukla depend on seasonal demand, airport congestion, and weather conditions.
Peak Season Lukla Flights (March, April, May, September, October, November)
During the busiest trekking months, flights to Lukla also operate from Ramechhap/Manthali Airport as well as from Kathmandu. This is due to increased air traffic at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
- Manthali Airport is about 132 km from Kathmandu, requiring a 5 to 6-hour drive before boarding the 20-minute flight to Lukla.
- Flights from Manthali depart early in the morning (between 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM) to avoid strong winds and unpredictable weather in Lukla.
Off-Peak Season Lukla Flights (January, February, June, July, August, December)
In the low trekking season, Lukla flights depart directly from Kathmandu, eliminating the need for a drive to Ramechhap. This makes the journey more convenient for trekkers visiting during winter or monsoon months.
Lukla Flight Delays & Cancellations – What You Need to Know
Flying to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla is an adventure in itself! However, due to:
- Unpredictable Himalayan weather
- Congestion at Kathmandu Airport
- Short, mountainous runway challenges
- Topographical difficulties
Flights may face delays or cancellations. To avoid disruption, it is highly recommended to add 1-2 buffer days to your itinerary. This ensures flexibility in case of unexpected Lukla flight changes.

When trekking in the Himalayas, having a porter makes your journey easier by carrying your heavy bags, allowing you to fully enjoy the stunning landscapes of Nepal. Our trekking packages includes one porter for every two trekkers, ensuring a smooth and comfortable trekking experience.
Porter Weight Limit & Group Allocation
- Each porter can carry up to 24kg of combined weight.
- 1 porter is provided for every 2 trekkers (e.g., 2 porters for 4 trekkers, and 3 porters for 6 trekkers).
- If you are a solo trekker, a porter is not included in the package. However, we can hire a porter for you for an additional $30 USD per day, payable upon arrival in Kathmandu.

- Sleeping Bag (rated for -10°C to -15°C, or a liner for tea houses). You can also hire sleeping bag in Kathmandu for 3 USD per day.
